Make Space at Manchester Art Gallery was a creative two hour drop-in workshop for adults that gave them the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes, try new things and mess about with materials and ideas. We created conversations cards inspired by Matthew Darbyshire: An Exhibition for Modern Living, exploring notions around rejection and connection. We asked people to think about why they connect with certain objects and artworks and reject others.
Participants started off rummaging through a collection of weird and wonderful objects varying from the intriguingly tactile to the really repulsive. They then created a still life from the objects they rejected or connected with. They captured their composition with the cameras, low-fi filters and lighting provided.
