Project Description

Brief Encounters of the arty kind! As part of The Whitworth’s outreach programme we set up workshop outside Asda in Hulme, an inner-city area in Manchester. Our colourful display enticed families to spend time together, creating through play, before or after their supermarket shop. We gave families the creative challenge to make responses to keywords (picked form a lucky dip, of course) such as balance, stack or dizzy, calm or energetic using simple materials like newspaper, electric tape and string. They could spend 2 minutes or two hours in the drop-in activity exploring connections with the materials and words before we displayed their creations in the Inspiration area and posted them on Twitter for other families to marvel at.
