Background
Pupils from Baguley Hall Primary School worked together and explored each of the key themes – Harmony, Unity, Build, Balance and Strength – using different materials. Sessions took place at Manchester Art Gallery and in their classrooms, using each theme as a starting point the children discussed what each word stood for and created visual interpretations using colour, origami, pattern, photography and sculpture. The project was part of the School’s ambition to become a Peace Mala school, a school that celebrates the diversity of faiths, cultures and lifestyles.
The collaborative artworks were then printed onto wood and displayed in a prominent place for all to see. Feedback from the Headteacher confirmed that the artworks have prompted thoughtful conversations amongst parents, carers, pupils, teachers and the whole community.
